Bonnie Maloy Stephenson, 90, widow of Meade White Stephenson, died Saturday, March 16, 1991 at Camelot Hall Nursing Home, Harrisonburg, following and illness of several months.
She was born March 27, 1900 at McDowell, a daughter of Emmett Jackson and Georgia (Vance) Maloy.
She joined McDowell Presbyterian Church. Following her marriage, she was a member of Monterey Presbyterian Church for more than 68 years. She attended Stonewall Jackson College, Abingdon, and was employed as a school teacher in Highland County and by First and Citizens Bank of Monterey. She was the owner and proprietor of Tally-Ho Tourist Home at Monterey for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Ellen S. Johnson of Richmond; a son, William Emmet Stephenson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three sisters, Mrs. Paul Hiner and Mrs. Ruth Wade, bother of McDowell and Mrs. Branch Rives of Fieldale; four grandchildren, Robert and Stephen Johnson of Richmond, Gena S. Ranner of Austin, Texas, and Patti S. Spencer of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Scott and Kelly Spencer.
A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Monterey Presbyterian Church by the Rev. C. William Cox, with burial in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Lucius Stephenson, Michael Maloy, Garland Dever, Fred Frye, Gray Honaker, Lawrence Beverage and Rudolph Siron.
Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Sullenberger, Alex Burton, Roger Moyers, William Niswander, Jack Harold, George McWhorter, Glen Hammer, E.W. Cox Jr. and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 630-830 p.m., Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home Home, McDowell.
Memorials may be made to Monterey Presbyterian Church, Highland County Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society.
