Bobby Blair McCray, of McDowell, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at King’s Daughters’ Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Staunton.
He was born June 7, 1941 in Head Waters, a son of Leo and Pearl McCray.
Bobby was married to his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Hiner McCray, whom he married Aug. 31, 1962.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Pearl Armstrong McCray; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Blair and Tracey McCray, all of McDowell; a sister, Frances Bird; and a niece, Jamie Bird-Jeter and husband, Gary, of Cypress, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo McCray, and a brother-in-law, James Bird.
He retired from Virginia Department of Transportation after 30 years of service, was a farmer, and started an excavating company with his son. He was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church and a founding member of McDowell Volunteer Fire Department.
He loved bear hunting and being outdoors.
A memorial service was conducted 7 p.m., Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Beth Pyles officiating.
