Beulah Virginia Cales “Nan” Ervin, 84, died Monday, August 26, 2002 at her residence in McDowell. Mrs. Ervin was born June 2, 1918 in Covington, a daughter of Grover Cleveland Cales and Mazie Smith Cales.
She was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Revercomb Ervin, who died December 3, 1998.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Willis Drumheller, of Covington.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law. Laten and Charles Bechtel and Alice Patler of Staunton; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerry Ervin of Dallas, Texas, Samuel Revercomb Ervin, Jr. and Gail Ervin of McDowell, Steven Ervin of Staunton; one brother, Elwood Cales of Hinton, W.Va.
Mrs. Ervin is also survived by nine grandchildren, Christine Monk of Arlington, Texas, J. Lee Ervin of Denver, Co., Virginia Ervin of Dallas, Texas; Nick Patler and Shannon Gray of Staunton; Mark Patler, Tara Salmons, Amber Ervin and Morgan Ervin all of McDowell. She also leaves 10 great-grandchildren. Special friends include David Cale of McDowell and Brad Bennett of Hospice of the Highlands.
A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton by the Rev. Lennie Stinnett.
Family and friends will gather after the service at the family home, 1 Waverly Green, Staunton, to celebrate the life of Nan and share memories.
Active pallbearers will be the grandchildren, David Cale and Preston Leitch, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Hospice of the Highlands, P.O. Drawer Z, Hot Springs, Va. 24445.
