Betty Jean Smith, 79, of Staunton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at her home.
She was born Jan. 9, 1933 a daughter of the late George Campbell.
On Dec. 30, 1961, she married Samuel William Smith, who preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1984. She was also predeceased by a sister, Peggy Smith; two brothers, Eddie and Donnie Campbell; and a son-in-law, Doug Crowe.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother and a friend to many. She was a homemaker and an avid New York Yankees fan.
She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Terry and David Rowe, Donna Crowe and Sherry Smith, all of Staunton; a son, Samuel W. Smith Jr. of Waynesboro; two granddaughters, Samantha Owens and companion, Justin Potter of Staunton and Raven Smith; two great-granddaughters, Brianna Owens and Abigail Potter; and a sister, Pat Back of Raleigh, N.C.
A private graveside service was held 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, in Clover Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Darren Massey officiating.
