Betty Simmons

Betty Lee Simmons, 83, of Doe Hill passed away Friday, January 19, 2018.

She was born September 9, 1934 in Sugar Grove, WV, a daughter of the late Roy Franklin and  Alice Lubertie (Mitchell) Wilfong.

On October 14, 1954, she married Whitney “Randy” Simmons, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1996.  She was also predeceased by her four siblings, Ervin Wilfong, Randolph Wilfong, Mary Virginia Wilfong and Nancy Simmons.

A homemaker, Betty was a great cook and an avid gardener, who especially liked sharing and canning her vegetables. She was an active member of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and thoroughly enjoyed working at the Maple Festival. The most important part of Betty’s life was her family, who will remember her love, caring and sharing.

Betty is survived by her children, Dean Simmons and wife, Kay of McDowell; David Simmons and wife, Connie of McDowell; Gary Simmons of Doe Hill; Christina Armstrong and husband, Lance of Churchville and Michael Simmons and friend, Connie White of Doe Hill; her grandchildren, Joshua Simmons and wife, Jaimie of Doe Hill; Kayla Simmons of Doe Hill and friend, Paul Armstrong, Bryan Simmons and Austin Simmons, both of Moyers, WV; her precious great-granddaughter, Alyssa Simmons (known as “Sissy” by Betty); step-grandsons, Erick Kane of McDowell and Jason Woolls and wife, Jenna of Fredericksburg; her brother, William Wilfong and wife, Cathleen of Mint Spring, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Pastor Beth Pyles and Napoleon Mullins.

Burial will follow in McKendree Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home of Betty.

At Betty’s request, the casket will be closed.

Active pallbearers will be Lowell Simmons, Doug Siron, Craig Smith, Mike Armstrong, Matt Blagg, Lee Blagg, Tom Jones and Delbert Rexrode, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary.
