Betty Jean Bishop, 64, of Staunton, passed away, Monday, March 7, 2011 at University of Virginia Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 18, 1946 at McDowell, a daughter of the late William Roy and Virginia Dare Phillips Bishop.
Betty Jean was a member of Staunton Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed being on the go and will be remembered as a fixture at sporting events in the area.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Bishop, and two sisters, Ruby Irene Manor and Judy Fleisher.
She is survived by a sister, Joyce Sweitzer and husband, Ernest Jr., of Monterey; two nieces, Kimberly Samples of Paducah, Ky., and Glenda Blackwell of Churchville; four nephews, Steven Sweitzer of Monterey, Joe Manor of Staunton, Billy Manor of Harrisonburg and Wesley Fleisher of Franklin, W.Va.; two aunts, Joanna Wyatt and Mary Jane Crummett, both of Staunton; and special friend, John Herndon of Staunton.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2011 at Head Waters Cemetery with the Pastor Scott Duffey officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
