Bertha Hise

Bertha Pritt Hise, 69, of Warm Springs, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem.

She was born Dec. 3, 1942 in Warm Springs, a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth Gray Shaffier Pritt.

Mrs. Hise was a member of Eden United Methodist Church. On Dec. 1, 2004, she retired from banking after 38 years, serving as branch manager and vice president of BB&T Bank. She was also an agent for Highland Insurance in Bath County. She was active in the Senior Center, president of the Bath County Committee for Emergencies, vice president of the Bath County Retirement Home and treasurer of the Rose Kincaid Fund. She was a charter member and past treasurer of the Bath County Lioness Club and president of the Bath County BPW Club for many years. Additionally, she had served on all the county boards, including the Nursing Home Committee, Bath County Planning Commission, Public Service Authority, Industrial Development Authority, Bath County Board of Supervisors, as well as many other special committees. She enjoyed her farm and selling the vegetables that she raised. She especially enjoyed all of the animals and her many pets.

She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Howard Steven Hise; her sister and best friend, Mary Susan Blankenship and husband Richard Wayne Blankenship of Warm Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, at Eden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lorrie Aikens officiating. Burial will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Michael, Fred, Wesley, Charles, Richard and Jonathan Hise and Scott Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, at Eden United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bath County Committee for Emergencies, P.O. Box 52, Warm Springs, Va. 24484; Hot Springs Rescue Squad, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Va. 24445; or a church of choice.
