CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA Beatrice Arveda (Hedrick) Simmons, 90, of Charlottesville and formerly of Staunton, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Trinity Mission of Charlottesville. She was born March 25, 1925 in Whitmer, WV a daughter of the late Isom Hedrick and Emma Catherine Smith. Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and companion sitter. She was a past member of St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church and most recently attended Verona Church of God. On October 18, 1946, she married Malcolm Simmons, who preceded her in death in 1967. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Gina Arbogast; six sisters, Gertie Teter Arbogast, Texie Smith Haddix, Iva Smith Weaver, Nellie Margaret Smith, Martha Smith Helmick and Flora Smith Helmick and four brothers, Jacup Cecil Smith, Henry Clarence Smith, Dallas Isom Smith and Curtis Staten Lambert. She is survived by three daughters, Catherine Arbogast and husband, Fred of Charlottesville, Linda Bryant and husband, Stephen of Swoope and Helen Tucker of Weyers Cave; two sons, Joseph Wayne Simmons and wife, Eva of Staunton and Carl Roy Simmons and wife, Lorrie of Franklinton, NC; seven grandchildren, Wendy Arbogast, Nicole Fields, Pam Simmons, Lisa Melchor, Christopher Rivenback, Ryan Simmons and Hailey Simmons; thirteen great-grandchildren, Scott, Jessica, Amanda, Cassie, Anthoni, Geffery, Angel, Sadie, Abby, Gabe, Hannah, Joshua and Cooper and two great-great-grandchildren, Xavier and Jaylynn. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2016 at St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church, Moyers, WV with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arlen Breeden, Brian Ruebush, Ryan Simmons, A.W. Simmons, Angel Melchor, Christopher Rivenback, Scott Ashby and Anthoni Simmons. Friends may call at Obaugh Funeral Home throughout the day and into the evening Saturday. Additionally, the family will receive friends Sunday following the service at St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church.
