Audrey Corbett

MONTEREY, VA Audrey Ray Corbett, 89, of Monterey, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born August 2, 1925 in Highland County a daughter of the late Ernest Blair and Hester Grace (Simmons) Armstrong. Always a homemaker and caregiver, she retired from The Pentagon as an executive secretary for the general services administration. She formerly attended Word of Faith Church and was a media member of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, who gave of herself, constantly was on the go, and always put others before herself. On February 17, 1947, she married R.M. "Jimmy" Corbett, who preceded her in death on December 29, 1991. She was also predeceased by her sister, Thelma Jane Armstrong and five brothers, Waldo, Wayne, Eugene, Frankie and Carl "Scotty" Stover Armstrong. She is survived by two daughters, Sheila Raye Corbett and Carla Lynn Dunn, both of Monterey; five grandchildren, Sherry Anderson of Stephens City, Mark Runion of Monterey, Colleen Richardson of Winchester, Vicky Chrisner of Leesburg and Brooke Corkhill of Stephens City; thirteen great- grandchildren; her sister, Pearl McCray of McDowell and her brother, Charles Armstrong and wife, Belle of Head Waters. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in Head Waters Cemetery with the Pastor Chip Hill officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Armstrong, David Armstrong, Brian Doyle, William Beach, E. Joseph Chrisner and Chris Doyle. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2015 at Obaugh Funeral Home.
