Arthur “Harlan” Simmons, 74, died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Avante at Harrisonburg. He was born November 4, 1929 in Pendleton County, W.Va. a son of the late Clarence and Ella Leach Simmons.
Mr. Simmons worked as a self-employed logger.
A brother Richard Simmons preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lowell and Tammy Simmons of Doe Hill and Dennis and Susan Simmons of Blue Grass; two grandchildren, Heathers Jeffers of Morgantown, W.Va. and Michelle Simmons of Doe Hill; a brother and sister-in-law, Arch and Mary Jane Simmons of Staunton; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Simmons of Port Republic.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Doug Siron, Donnie Botkin, Delbert Rexrode, Jr., Leonard Simmons, Dean, David, Gary and Mike Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers include Jim, Gary, Bud and Dick Armstrong, William Conner, Jerry Cox, Toby Conner, Mike Avery, Ray Kisamore, John Root, Buck Carroll and members of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
