Arthena Griffin

Arthena Elizabeth (Ray) Griffin, 74, of Staunton and formerly of Mustoe, died on Wednesday, June 4, 1997 at Augusta Medical Center.

She was born on April 7, 1923 near Frost, WV, a daughter of Howard Granville and Mause Estella (Slayton) Ray.

On October 11, 1940, she married Walter L. Griffin, who died on February 8, 1983.

She resided at Plaza Apartments for a number of years and Shenadoah Nursing Home at Fishersville for the past five months. She was employed by Aileen Inc. at Monterey before her illness.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Puffenbarger of Staunton; son, Walter Lee Griffin of Mustoe; four sisters, Nora Turner of Spartanburg, S.C., Olive Barnard of Geneva, Ohio, Vergie Wanless of Minniehaha Springs, WV, and Velma Turner of Arborvale, WV; six grandchildren; eight-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Gibson, with burial in the Griffin Family Cemetery at Mustoe.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Varner, Dennie Hull, Doug Stuart, Miles Kelly, Andy, Charlie and Jessor Hupman and Tiffany Hull.

Honorary pallbeaerers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
