Anna Compton

October 17, 1919 — November 21, 2003

Anna Mae Compton, 84, of Winchester and formerly of Monterey, died, Friday, November 21, 2003 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville.

She was born October 17, 1919 at Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of Raymond and Ella Keyser Godshalk.

She was married to the late Rev. Norman A. Compton, a retired minister of the United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Compton was a loving mother. She was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church, W.S.C.S. and Retired Ministers’ Wives. She loved making dolls and crafts for the Highland County Fair and Highland County Craft Shop.

She was predeceased by a son, James Urban and a brother, Bobby Godshalk.

She is survived by three daughters, Diane Melody Bradford of Warrenton, Rose Anne Broce and husband, Merv of Covington and Karen Jean Clifton of Hot Springs; two sons, Dennis Norman Compton and wife, Agnes, of Winchester and Carl Urban Compton of Fredericksburg; a sister, Tillie Weldon of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2003 at Monterey United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert L. Haley and the Rev. Michael Sullivan.

Burial will be at the Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Larry and Charles Wagoner, Michael, Audie and Curtis Bradford, Shane Clifton and Gregg Stump.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home.
