Alfred Wilson Blagg, 84, of Doe Hill, died Wednesday, October 7, 1998 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born August 7, 1914, at Doe Hill, a son of Abner Joshua and Elsie Virginia (Wilson) Blagg.
On June 9, 1946, he married Margaret Sheaffer.
He was a farmer, He was a lifelong member of Doe Hill United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent for over 25 years. He also served for many years as the secretary/treasurer of Doe Hill Cemetery. He was a charter member of the Stonewall Ruritan Club. As a Ruritan, he held numerous offices in the local club, as well as serving twice as zone governor. He was an active member in Highland County Farm Bureau where he had served as president.
Surviving are his of 52 years, Margaret S. Blagg of Doe Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee W. and Marilyn G. Blagg of Doe Hill and Lt. Col. James A.and Tracey C. Blagg of Atlanta; two brothers and a sisters-in-law, Lawerence H. and Abbie B. Blagg of Monterey and Samuel A. Blagg of Columbia, S.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jane and William R. Robertson of Oakton; three grandsons; and four granddaughters.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Doe Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Townsend with burial in Doe Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Alfred Armstrong, Glen Botkin Jr., Thomas Jones, Ray Eagle, Gary Simmons and Kenny Hodges.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. T.E. Billingsley, Carroll Mitchell, John Moyers Sr., Steve and Marvin Botkin, Scotty and Larry Armstrong and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at Obaugh Funeral Home.
