Adolphe Hooke

August 15, 1925 — October 6, 2001

Adolphe Edmond Hooke, 76, of the Mill Gap Community in Highland County, died Saturday morning, October 6, 2001 at his home.

He was born August 15, 1925, at McDowell, a son of George Wickline Sr. and Anna Sue Hoover Hooke.

He was a partner with his brother, George Hooke, at Hooke Brothers Lumber Company at Mill Gap. He was a member and treasurer and a deacon of the Beulah Presbyterian Church.

He also was a past member of The Mill Gap Ruritan Club.

He was a World War II veteran of the Navy.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Jean Hooke Mauzy in May 1971; three brothers, Charles, George and Keith Hooke; and two sisters, Lucille Basham and Virginia Hooke.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Carolyn (Dever) Hooke, whom he married August 20, 1948; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Tom Benson of Staunton and Donna and Roger Straub of Monterey; a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Paula Hooke of Fort Defiance; two sisters, Mary Catherine Crummett of Blue Grass and Dorothy Garrett of Bay Town, Texas; a brother Bob Hooke of Monterey; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Bill Moore and Jerry Ginn. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe Simmons, Randy Hooke, Jerry Hooke, Wickie Hooke, Robert Hooke, Garland Dever, Andre Crummett and Vernon Simmons.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees and associates of Hooke Brothers Lumber Company.

The family will receive friend 7-9 this evening at the funeral home.
