Ada Pritchard

October 31, 1926 — May 20, 2005

Ada Marie Stowers Pritchard, 78, formerly of Monterey, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at Stuarts Draft Christian home, where she had lived for the past six years.

She was born October 31, 1926 at Pecks Mill, W.Va., a daughter of the late Peter Dennis and Lona Mae Barker Stowers.

On Nov. 30, 1946, she married Joseph C. Pritchard, who died September 4, 1997. She and her husband owned The Recorder, where she served as business manager from 1955-85. She was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sadie Baird, and a brother, Olford Stowers.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Kyle Almond of Hightown, Jane and Walter Pitsenbarger of Raleigh, N.C. and Ann P. “Noni” and Bradley Yount of Andover, Mass.; four grandchildren, Erin Almond May and husband Michael of Petersburg, Jacob Pitsenbarger and Alec and Rebecca Yount; two step-grandchildren, Chris Pitsenbarger of Harrisonburg and Noel Pitsenbarger of Hillsborough, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jenna May; four step-great-grandchildren, Kailey Pitsenbarger, Michael McLaurin and Ashton and Blake May; a sister, Minnie McGraw of Pecks Mill, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Janice Pritchard Wagner and husband Carl of Monterey; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at Monterey United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard S. Gibson.

Burial was in Monterey Cemetery.

Pallbearers were family members Kyle Almond, Walter Pitsenbarger, Bradley Yount, Jacob Pitsenbarger, Alec Yount, Michael May, Don McGraw, Scott McGraw, Kevin Wagner, Carl Wagner and Craig Pritchard.
