James “Jim” Lee Hutchison, 81, of the Vinegar Run community of Mustoe, passed away Friday, June 25, 2021 at Bath Community Hospital.
He was born June 3, 1940 in Ward, TX, the son of the late Leroy and Opal Mae (Thompson) Hutchison.
A man of great faith, Jim was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church, where he formerly served on the Church Board of Trustees and former chairperson of the Church Administrative Council. Additionally, Jim was a Master Mason with membership in Highland Lodge #110 in Monterey.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy and Vietnam War, Jim retired as a Senior Chief Yeoman from the Navy following a distinguished career of 26 years. Following his discharge in 1987, he would go on to work as a tour guide at Colonial Williamsburg, a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service and ultimately as a real estate agent with Gutshall & Associates.
He enjoyed sailing and time spent on his boats “Sir Francis” and “Aeolus” as well as hanging out with his friends from the Masonic Lodge. Also, Jim will be fondly remembered by many as somewhat of a Grill Master, never passing on an opportunity to showcase his Barbeque skills for friends and family. Above all, he will be remembered as a soft-spoken and genuine person to his community and loving husband and father to his family.
He is survived by his wife Martha Mae (Murray) Hutchison; two daughters, Margaret Catharine Jennings and husband, Kristian of Mustoe and Anne Marie Dessaint of Ledyard, CT; two sons, James Matthew Hutchison of New London, CT, and John William Doores of Mustoe; grandchildren, Blaise and Jade Dessaint; sister, Jean Tetens of Arlington, TX; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Finley.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 2, 2021 at Obaugh Funeral Home with pastor Bobbi Jo Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Monterey Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be members of the Highland Masonic Lodge #110.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
